Introduction.....

I’m Lolly; I’ve known Tim and Michelle for about 2 ½ years and was introduced to them by Jo who trains me and my dog Holly at Obedience (mind you now that I know them I don’t know if that’s a good thing or bad!! – just getting my own back for calling my pup the fat cow !!).  I have two dogs; Holly the Collie, she’s from a rescue centre and I’ve had her for three years – I decided when I lost my very first dog before Christmas three years ago that a month being “home alone” was too long and spent a whole day going around rescue places only to take the first dog I’d seen, she’d been found wandering over the Christmas period so that’s why she’s called Holly.  Bit of a mouthful for Tim at Agility Demonstrations when he has to announce, “this is Lolly with Holly the Collie” usually he gets the names the wrong way round!  Holly’s been doing Agility for about three years and we’ve now entered a few competitions after a lot of badgering, with some clear rounds and two placed clear rounds; a 7th and 18th which we were very proud of.  We are trying to do Flyball but Holly’s more interested in chasing the other dogs or getting their ball.

My other dog is Tigger, another collie; I got him from Tim and Michelle, his mum is Josie and he is 9 weeks old.  I felt very privileged as I went to the Vets with Chel and saw Josie’s scan and then when she went in for her Cesar, Tim and Chel came round to my house and then we all went to see the pups after they were an hour old!  I liked Tigger straight away as he had a white ear and half a white tail and I never changed my mind all the way through.  I would like to say that he was the biggest out of the lot but he isn’t now.  Holly and Tigger get on famously; I had my doubts at first wondering if Holly would get on with him but needn’t have worried – you’d think they’d been together forever.  Sometimes I’m the one who feels left out.  Apart from nearly ending up in a “Tigger Pie” as I was getting really frustrated with him weeing everywhere, he is gorgeous and wouldn’t give him up for anything.  I’ve never had a puppy before; Teddy my first dog was 11 months old when I got her and Holly was 18 months, so this is quite an experience for me, although I’m being assured he will grow out of his wetting the bed, so Tim, Michelle and Jo are being very patient with my stressy moments and all my questions I bombard them with.

Update on Tigger:July 2003
Tigger is now 7 months old (and I think a very handsome boy) and in the process of becoming a juvenile delinquent (in other words a “Kevin and Perry”).  I’ve now started going to the gym in order to get one over on him and it is working as I had to rugby tackle him at Tuffley Show on Sunday and I won!!!  Apart from that he is doing very well and has progressed to the second class at Obedience, as he now needs to be worked.  Apart from when we are at shows, he does walk nicely on the lead with Holly and is just beginning to learn how to stay (very time consuming).  He loves going out to play ball with Holly although he’s not interested in the ball, just watches Holly all the time and chases her and then does his typical sheepdog thing and lays down ready to pounce again.  He has finally stopped having accidents through the night and is beginning to hold himself longer throughout the day.  He gained his camping badge last weekend along with Holly, just for the one night, and I was quite impressed with them both.  His only real bad habit at the moment is CHEWING, as Jo will tell you as she no longer has a leather lead that was clipped to the car cage!!  I also think he’s going to be good at Agility as he clears the baby gates in my house with complete ease!

Tigger took part in an exemption show yesterday, where he had 3rd place in AV Puppy,
then 1st place in Best long coated dog!!
well done tig,
....(made up for chewing the carpet, towel and vet bed that morning!!) ....

November 2003
Tigger has started some basic agility along with his sisters meg and popi, he is very quick to pick things up, and he pays attention, he has the odd minute where his mind wanders,
but not for long.....
he, like the others, goes nuts while watching, and squeals!
all in all, he's very switched on when it comes to agility, i think he will be a very fast dog,
as he isnt too big, but is very powerful!
i think lol will have to remember her running shoes with this one!!!

January 2004

The baby-gates have been removed from the house – hooray.  Can’t believe this time last year he was so small and I was tearing my hair out with his piddling and now he’s big and doing agility!!  He still has the odd moment of chewing something if I don’t put things away – like my slippers the other night and he still likes to chew the bedding, whether it be sheets or rubber matting, in the car cage (even when sprayed with Bitter Bite)!  His obedience training is getting better and he’s very good at his waits at the bottom of the stairs (unless Holly runs past and then all hell’s let loose), he’s not that confident at doing them at the hall for some reason.  Him and Holly are still best buddies although he is naughty about not letting Holly play with anything in the house; he takes it away and sits on it – so he now gets shut in the kitchen when it’s playtime for Holly (any suggestions?).  Outside tho it’s a different matter, he doesn’t attempt to take toys away.  Tigger’s a very loving dog and loves to have loads of fuss and rough and tumble games.  It’s very hard to do exercise videos tho as he wants to join in and jumps up at you or pounces on you just as you’re doing a tummy crunch!  I would not be without him now,; he’s my handsome boy (god, give me a bucket yuk!!).  And best of all, he’s finally learnt that if he gets into the car by himself after a walk/play it does mean that he will go out again!!! No more running away – just waits by the car to get in – JOY!!!

Tigger has just started his agility beginner’s course and is coming up to his third lesson.  So far so good, my t-shirt needs to read “Fast Dog Slow Handler” I think, and I need to start weight training in order to hold him back (and yes we are doing the “get your dog focused on a toy” – this works for a while and then pure excitement takes over!).  The first week he brought me to my knees by not wanting to work on the right and tripping me up – I’ll be glad when he’s off the lead.  He’s improving on his Ready Steady Go’s and is jumping elementary height with ease; it’s good to see from the pics that he is actually focused on me.  We haven’t done much yet on touch points and I think we are going to get completely tangled when we start on the weaves! When the evenings are lighter I’ll be able to go out with my jumps and weave poles and he and Holly will be able to get more training in as we’ve got quite a few comps lined up already (camping AAARRGGHHH!!!)

Update: 31st January 2004
Tig and Meg took part in Exeter Open Breed Show today,
Meg came 2nd in
Graduate & Open Border Collie
Tig came 3rd and 4th
in the same classes!

4th July 2004
Tig had his first clear round today, 6th place in Anysize jumping at a cornwall show!
He was entered a long time ago - hence being in anysize!!
It has probably helped him and lolly to have a good round (or 2 as they had a run off!) and was a nice easy flowing course.
Well done Tig - lets hope its the first rossette of many!!

Tigger is full of mischief but a very loving dog and loves to cuddle up on my lap on the settee; Holly will curl up by the side of me but Tigger likes to completely lay across you.  Bit difficult in the summer when you’re trying to sunbathe and he tries to get on the sun-lounger too and you end up with dog hairs and suntan lotion - yuk!! The only bullying he does of Holly is that indoors he won’t ever let her play with toys and steals them away, but outside just runs with her while she’s catching the Frisbee or ball.  They play a lot in the house and I do wonder if my neighbours hear them careering around and play fighting.
He is a very excitable dog and when I get the leads out he really just does not know what to do with himself and it takes him about 10 minutes to calm down.  He now knows that if he sits nicely (on the settee I have to say) he will get his halti on as before I would come out of the kitchen and he would just run and lunge at me in pure excitement.
Unfortunately he has caught Holly’s vibes when fireworks are about and is quite scared of any big noises, and when my washing machine does its final spin he will run from wherever he is straight onto my lap; I completely ignore him but it hasn’t made the slightest bit of difference.
I’m hoping he may get a girl-friend or two this year but he needs to be hip-scored and eye tested first.
He has just realised how to cock his leg and seems to me that when we go out he tries to see how high he can get it and nearly falls off balance.
