Back to Megan

January 2003

Megan is our newest edition, She is a lovely pup, very alert and bright as a button!!
She is (hopefully) going to be Tim's dog for agility later on in her life, for now she is just a mad puppy!! She has her choice of play-mates as Holly,Josie and Zig cant get enough of her!!
She is a lot like her mum, Josie, in many ways, ie pestering you if you dont want to play!!
Meg is a very friendly outgoing little pup, she will be able to join pup classes,
as soon as vaccination course is complete.

March 2003
Meg is a lovley little pup, very full of herself!
She dosent realise how small she is as she tries to take on huge dogs! She is a definate little toad! in a lot of ways she is like Josie, they both love their cuddles, and both can be a pain in the butt with toys!!
We seem to have cracked the house-training, she will have the odd accident now and then if she gets excited,
but usually she is ok.
She likes going to training where she can boss popi and tigger, she pays attention quite nicley -
she isnt too distracted by the others being there -
she now knows her basic commands: sit, down, wait (sometimes!) stand, come (sometimes too!) and paw,
for which she cocks her head to one side!!

She has a funny-five minutes every morning when she is let up to say hello,
as she jumps on the bed, lies down and crawls on her belly!!
On a walk she is usually found hanging from harvey's bum, as she is very herdy, poor harv lets her get away with it though! Usually as soon as you say "NO!!" she lets go!

Giving her paw!

 I couldn't have caught a better one!!
Meg likes her grub....can you tell???

28th April 2003
Meg has passed her good citizens puppy test on the 14th April, s
he has improved alot since Josie has gone back to Richard, she will now come back 98% when called,
but this is still work in progress, she is a monkey of a pup still,
she and Zig have a race circuit around the house which can be hilarious at times,
bit of a pain if you are watching a film when they run across the chairs! They go nuts!!
I have decided we are going to go to Exeter for some ring craft training, and we are being brave and entering a few breed shows, including Paignton champ show..........!!!!!!!!!
(how scarey is that!)

Meg on common April '03

12th June 2003
Went to our first ringcraft class last night - she was ok, she was ever so wriggly!
I'm going to have to spend a lot of time working on her standing - as the show is only 2 weeks away now!  On a good note, she is looking lovley at the moment, her coat, and those ears, are just right, i was dreading showing a 7 month old leggy thing, but at the end of the day, i know i'll be taking home the best looking puppy in my eyes!!

June 2003
After the Show!!
Well we didnt get anything, as predicted! But.....I was ever so pleased with her, she stood and moved nicely and didnt jump all over the judge, which was very good for her, along with a related waggerland pup, they both werent picked for the line up...never mind, she was the smallest in the classof 10!
Maybe another show........

July 12th 2003.
Her next show, was at Liskeard Open Show, in the AV pastoral minor puppy, im not sure how a judge judges this class, but there was one dog which joined in after he had been over all the dogs that were there on time! Meg showed herself absolutley spot on....but obviously not in the judges eyes, as again, we didnt make the final cut! Still there were some nice pups, a corgi,3 shelties, a rough collie, and a lancashire heeler...one of the shelties won it.....funnily enough she was stood chatting with the judge most of the day too!!
it's like they say, its who you know.......

JULY UPDATE
Meg is still a toad, she has sussed out that she can pull the guard in the back of the car, and if she pulls hard enough it will give a couple of inches so she can squeeze through! she only does it when we take a dog out of the car to go training!!
apart from that she has also been through some of harry's toys!!
Her training is coming along nicley, she knows all her basics, also i have being doing longer stays, we do aroung 2 minutes now, which is good, she also does nice competition type heelwork, im having to teach her some tricks as she gets bored when she knows something!! so now onto paw, twist, creep, bend, and weaving through my legs (not too much of course!!) little things to keep her thinking! we still struggle with a retreive though, she will go and get the toy, but under no circumstances will she bring it back...she gives you a look as if to say, "well you threw it, you get it!!"
Im trying to make more of a fun time with it, as when we go out with a toy,
its always Harvey, or one of the others that gets it first, she'd rather herd them!!
Speaking of herding, next week i am taking meg and ziggy out with lolly and tigger, to see what they are like with sheep, and try to work with some of their insticts as they all have it very strong!!
i'll keep you posted, and yes, i will be taking the camera!!

UPDATE: 8TH AUGUST 2003
Megan was entered in an Exemption show yesterday where she had a special in AV Puppy,
then 2nd ( tigger came 1st) in Best Long coated dog,
well done little meggie!

September 2003
Update:
Meg is doing basic agility training with tim, she will wait for a start command, and he's working on left & right turns as well as going on. he is target training her with a clicker for the contact, something he recently learned on a course with Greg Derrett & Dianne Talbot, both top instructors and handlers.

Tim trains megan to stop on the bottom of the stairs, and she is clicked when her nose touches the target, whatever it maybe, usually a piece of square perspex, which she knows to look for. as she is now coming up for twelve months we have put a couple of jumps at mini height to see what she does, she jumps them fine and really looks for the next obstacle.  she loves the rigid tunnel, and she will soon move onto the collapsible one too to make a change.

all of her training is done as a game, she is very keen to learn, and although she only does about 10 minutes a week, she loves it!

October 2003

Meg is responding very well to her training, she is even coming back nearly 100% now when called,
She even gets into the car when the others do,and will heel when told off lead on a walk!!

24th November 2003
Tonight, Megan passed her Bronze good citizens test, even though she had her evil head on!!

December03
Aged: 13 months
Meg is having her first season, we are finally coming to the end,
beleive it or not, her temperment has improved but her confidence has gone!!
We are holding off from all training, as obviously she cant go to club being in season, but at the moment she dosent want to play or anything in the garden, so im doing some wait training with her using food and thats it for now.

Im not sure what she will think of xmas, she's managed to steer clear of the tree.....
so far!!

Meg's Training Diary

Meg is responding really well to her training, and is quite keen with agility. She is a lot more confident on the basic equipment, and I run her in the class while Tim is teaching, so she can get used to the class environment, in which she is much more full of herself, although all the training is done on lead for now, until she is really ok with everything will we let her do it off lead, generally though, shes switched on, keen to learn,

April 2004
on a walk on the common.....

Update: 26th April 2004

Due to other commitments the last 2 weeks, tim hasnt been able to take meg for her extra bit of training by herself,
but she did have a run in the pay on the day class at a show this weekend, as with tigger and murran,
who were both way better than her!  Never mind the fact meg stopped to poo!!
She listened, sort of, and when she was working paid no attention to the dogs running in the other ring,
or those barking etc in the queue, or Jak on the sidelines!
she was pretty confident, so Tim was quite pleased with her!
Tig and Murran did lovley rounds, they both have a nice jumping style,
and both werent phased by other dogs outside of the ring, it was lovley to watch,
