Ziggy
*See bottom of page for updates*

Ziggy is my collie; she is very much a one-woman dog! She is very affectionate, loves everyone and everything! She tried to mother Josie's pups, she would stand or lie down to let them try and feed, aswell as clean and play with them! she was a really good foster mum!!!

Zig is a typical collie, loves to be busy – she has taken well to agility training, and loves working for anything! She can be a bit nervy at times, she is the wimp of our dogs!! Although when she is watching agility, you'd never know that! She goes nuts, and like to stand on her back legs while resting her top half on the railings!!
Zig has come along really well in her training and as you can accumulated a few rosettes during 2004, lets hope they are the first of many!! Zig won her First class, Elementary agility at Pembroke show in August 2004 and has loads of places since then too. I am really pleased as we have even managed a few top ten places in starters, so shows we have the capability of doing quite well!

In October 04 Zig was diagnosed with a grade 5 heart murmur, and while the vet has advised us to carry on as normal, we will be doing less during the summer months when more likely to put strain on her, and obviously arent going to breed from her.

Zigs Training Diary

6 weeks -              6 months!

December 2002

she loves to train and be thinking, michelle is going to try and do some obedience competition this year, if it fits in with all the agility shows! Zigs will be 18 months in September 2003 so hopefully Longleat will be her first show. She is extremely fast, and although she hasn’t done any jumping or contact equipment, she is showing a lot of potential, we have started to teach her to wait and go through jump wings, she knows both types of tunnels, she will go on, we are working on directional commands, and also 3 weaves to get the right entry now while young without having her bend at all, all of this is done in preparation for training properly when she is old enough, at the moment everything is done in play so she doesn’t even realise she’s learning! She is now almost 12 months, and we are working on a low A frame, which she loves! so we will gradually begin to put things together.

Ziggy has taken part in one breed show, for a bit of experience really, we know she isn’t show material, and she did ever so well, she was only 6 months at the time – the youngest in the class but the best behaved by far, she stood, moved and generally showed herself off, she came 3rd, so we were really pleased!

Her best friend in the world has got to be jasper the cat, they constantly play together, although she is moping at the moment because he has been missing since November 28th, 2002

Update 28th April 2003

Ziggy is still soooooooo keen in agility,we have also had a heelwork to music day at the weekend, which we both enjoyed very much, and we will hopefully work on this training as i think she really needs to be working, and as we havent a big garden, this is something we can practice on the patio! we'll see........

June 2nd, 2003
We are having to miss a couple of weeks at training now, as Ziggy is in season, but we are continuing practicing in the garden where we have 2 jumps, a set of weaves and a tunnel.
The schedule is out for the (hopefully!)  first competition, which we will enter,
and decide nearer the day if she is ready to run
.....i think she will be!

10th June 2003
As Zig is no longer in Season, we can carry on with her training!!
yippee!!
